About KrioRus

KrioRus specialist Alexey Potapov
KrioRus is the first cryonics company outside the United States and is providing affordable cryonics services. It was established in 2006 by a group of Russian cryonics enthusiasts who found during a cryosuspension in September 2005 that there are few hurdles to a successful cryonics practice in Russia. The legal issues, the technical issues, the transportation and the co-operation with morticians were all much easier than we expected when we first considered a local cryofirm.

Russian cryonicists wanted to create a local company for more than a decade. Preparatory work on KrioRus started in 2005. We selected the location for the storage in January 2006. In March we moved the equipment in and tested the dewar. On April 24 and 28 we moved two Russian patients who have been temporarily stored in dry ice into permanent storage. On May 3, 2006 "KrioRus" was registered as a limited liability company. Since then the company has performed 2 additional cryonic suspensions in Moscow and assisted in 2 suspensions in other regions. Additionally a dog was suspended in 2008, allowing us to test better procedures.

The company focus is on providing reliable and affordable cryonics services throughout Russia and in Europe. We can minimize the price of cryonics by doing neurosuspension (which is expensive at Alcor and not offered by Cryonics Institute). Our procedures are simple and functional ensuring that the total price stays below 10000 euros in most situations. We are authorised by a Russian insurance company to sell life insurance as their agent (with a discount to the client), bringing cryonics within the reach of everyone, although our prepayment options are even more financially attractive. We can also perform a whole-body suspension and store the patient in Russia or ship him to an American cryonics provider.

Our storage facilities are in the Moscow region in a house provided by one of the co-founders. External renovations were done in spring 2008, additional repairs and renovations are under way. There are two plants producing liquid gases nearby. For neuro patients we use a 250-liter dewar, where their brains are stored in liquid nitrogen. Full-body patients are stored in custom-built dewars, although in the near future we expect to switch to Almex 6-patient cryostats, like those used by CI. For perfusion we use glycerol-based cryoprotectant developed by Cryonics Institute. Depending on the location of our patient and available time we would co-operate with local doctors or morticians. Our specialists can travel anywhere in Russia, CIS or EU on short notice. We expect to be able to handle most legal and logistical complications, especially if the client has signed up in advance and if some local assistance is available.

In May we publicised the opening of KrioRus in the media. The company has received constant coverage in the media. It started with a cover story in "Komsomolskaya Pravda", the largest Russian newspaper and continued with countless TV, radio, print and online stories. International media, from China to Chile, has covered KrioRus as well. Watch a report by Sky News (UK), read an article Frozen Brains Awaiting Resurrection Day in Storage in The St. Petersburg Times.

We want our company to be the first among many new providers of affordable cryonics services, helping to make suspension a default choice. We are also willing to help cryonics activists everywhere to set up local cryonics organisations without the need for large investment. In 2008 we expect to receive additional funds that will allow us to expand our technical capacity further.
